At this point, it's an early summer tradition unlike any other.
Taking out the third-leading scorer in the National Basketball Association from any roster is most likely not going to make it "better", especially in a short series against LeBron James and Co.
For the third straight year, it's Cleveland and Golden State in the NBA Finals.
Never has an National Basketball Association finals featured the same two teams for three years running.
Will Curry redeem himself after his own Finals fadeout - widely believed to be injury induced - where he shot just 22 of 60 in Games 5 through 7, capping off his MVP season with a 17-point no-show in Game 7?
Focusing specifically on Game 1 of the NBA Finals over the past 25 years, the Under has been a profitable 9-15-1 O/U since 1991 with an average combined score of 185.56 points versus an average closing total of 191.56. "In Game Two in the second quarter, it was clear he was in a lot of pain and we couldn't let him play the second half". There was Kevin Love spotting up along the wings and crashing the boards. If LeBron does it in these Finals, he may as well be a Ghostbuster. Jordan appeared in 179 postseason games; James played his 212th.
Brown returned three years later for a second stint in Cleveland. They had a minus-30 points-per-game differential at home in this series, the worst-ever point differential at home in a best-of-seven series.
The Cavs were up 43-27 after one quarter and pushed their lead into the 30s by the third quarter.
LeBron James surpassed Michael Jordan for the top spot on the NBA's all-time play-off scoring list, scoring 35 points against Boston on Thursday night to reach 5,995 in his career.
James will make his seventh straight trip to the Finals.
James said he was honored to pass Jordan, his boyhood idol.
"I wear the number because of Mike", James said of the No. 23 on his uniform.
"Kobe and Michael (Jordan) are both two-guards. So I didn't think I could be Mike". Throw in Terry Rozier and Olynyk as the other solid young players and next season Boston again gets to add one of the best young prospects to their team. So I think that helped shape my game.
"The biggest thing for me sitting here after breaking the all-time scoring record in playoff history, is I did it just being me". But I've gotta do what's best for me in the long run, what's best for my body. That was my mindset when I started playing the game. Tait was making $100 a game.
"Thirty teams suit up every year trying to get to this point, and only two teams do".
"In voting Stan Van Gundy the victor of this year's Rudy Tomjanovich Award, PBWA members are commending him for giving his time so generously to the media and for the thoughtfulness of his comments", PWBA president Josh Robbins said "Van Gundy, his fellow finalists and the other nominees understand that availability to the working press and candor in speaking with the press promote more informed, more accurate coverage".
