Djokovic and Nadal could meet in semifinals

The other quarter-finals would see Wawrinka meet 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic, Nadal would meet Canada's Milos Raonic while Djokovic could take on Dominic Thiem.

Nadal, who boasts a remarkable 72-2 record at Roland Garross, is trying to become the first player in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam event on ten occasions. Djokovic is likely to run into budding young talent Dominic Thiem, who enters the tournament as the No. 6 seed and the player with the third best odds to win the title.

The Spaniard, written off as a contender in Paris after a quarter-final loss to Novak Djokovic in 2015 and an injury-enforced pull-out before the third round a year ago, arrives at Roland Garros as the overwhelming favourite.

The 2017 French Open will get underway proper on Sunday, with first-round play from the men's and women's singles brackets.

Rafael Nadal could face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the French Open in his quest for a 10th title at Roland Garros.

Looking ahead to the clay court tournament, which begins tomorrow, Djokovic, who has won 12 Grand Slam singles titles, said he was delighted to have Agassi, the Olympic champion from Atlanta 1996, by his side. Nadal has won 15 of his last 16 matches on clay court. The first one was a shock loss to Robin Soderling in 2009 which opened the door for Roger Federer to win his only French Open title, and in 2015 to Djokovic.

The world No. 2 picked out the usual contenders of Stan Wawrinka, Rafael Nadal and Sir Andy Murray but believes the two younger stars are capable of a breakthrough at Roland Garros.

In the women s draw, top seed Angelique Kerber starts against experienced Russian Ekaterina Makarova in the first round. The Spaniard stunned Williams in last year's French Open, but she has not won a tournament since then. "Kind of creating a new team, creating a new vibe, it feels exciting", the 30-year-old victor of 12 grand slam titles told a news conference.

"But I do think in this situation when I have been struggling that having someone coming in with a fresh voice, different set of eyes, that can help and give you a different perspective".

Argentinian tennis player Juan Martin del Potro, whose career has been plagued by injuries, has confirmed his participation for the next week's second major of the season-French Open.

"I am very happy the way that I arrived here", he said. "It brings back memories from past year", Djokovic said at the draw ceremony. "I learned a lot from those matches, so I think I prepared well for this tournament".

In anticipation of breaking her previous record of second round in Roland Garros, Chinese top-ranked girl Zhang Shuai will face Donna Vekic of Croatia in the first round, and next meet the victor between Viktorija Golubic and Aliaksandra Sasnovich, with number eight seed Svetlana Kuznetsova looming ahead in the third round. "The win over Rafa was of course a big thing for me", Thiem said. You think more a little bit to not fall out again.

All in all, Nadal is the favorite, but only light one, and we will have and exciting competition here, which you shouldn't miss.
