Celtics eliminated from Eastern finals by Cavaliers

While there have been 14 rematches in NBA Finals history, this year's meeting between LeBron James' Cleveland Cavaliers and Stephen Curry's Golden State Warriors will be the first trilogy in league history.

Although they were eliminated from the NBA Playoffs by the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Boston Celtics have little time to rest.

With 2:44 left, the remaining Boston fans began a "Let's Go Celtics" chant that kept going until the final horn, cheering every basket as if the game were close.

Thanks to that trio, the Cavs are now headed to their third consecutive Finals trip after dismantling the Celtics in five games to win the East.

Thomas said at the team's practice facility Friday that the swelling must go down before there is a decision on how to rehab.

Speaking for the first time since the end of his season, Thomas said he might need surgery but it's "not the No. 1 option right now". As well as guys like Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley and Kelly Olynyk and just all their guys. They cause a lot of stress, and I'll get to that point when we start to prepare for them. And I don't mean just the NBA Finals or the playoffs, this applies to any NBA game and wider.

"I just think physically we weren't as physical as we needed to be defensively", Lue said.

James had overtaken Michael Jordan as the NBA's all-time leading playoff scorer on a deep three-pointer late in the third quarter.

However, there is no honeymoon on the horizon to celebrate this milestone, as he will now be faced with the toughest test of his career as he and his team will to attempt to defeat arguably the greatest assemblance of talent in National Basketball Association history. Kyrie Irving had 29 points and Kevin Love recorded 28 points for Cleveland in the loss. The big star for the Giants that year was future Yankees manager Casey Stengel, who hit an inside-the-park homer in the ninth inning to win Game 1 and drove in the only run in Game 3 with another homer.

"I think I fell in love with the game because of Mike, but when you're growing up and seeing Michael Jordan it's nearly like a god, so I never did believe I could be Mike". No one has scored more points against any team in the playoffs than James has against the Celtics over the past 10 years.

"I usually take a few weeks off, and I'm at least playing at a YMCA or something", Thomas said.

In the fourth quarter, the game was out of reach and the Cleveland Cavaliers had their bench players on the floor. He watched Game 5 in street clothes. "I went when I was 23 years old, and it felt like the Western Conference Finals was nearly like the championship. The way he's playing, he's deserving of all the credit he's getting", Irving said before listing some of the Celtics who shone in Thomas' absence. And that made it this far. Thomas admitted he'd listen to extension talks but won't be upset if the Celtics ultimately use available dollars to better the team.

Next week they'll be watching Durant, who will play for his first title in his first season with the Warriors, a chance to finally be No. 1 on a team that once viewed him as their No. 2. Though admitting he doesn't fully understand the medical lingo, he said, "I have an extra bone or something".

After the Cavaliers won the title in 2016, the focus turned to a player who wasn't in the NBA Finals: Kevin Durant, who was entering free agency after his team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, had blown a 3-1 lead against the Warriors in the Western Conference finals. "The great thing about this is the experience".
