Cavs back in Finals

In 2011 the Cavs set a record for the most consecutive losses in a season.

With a three-pointer with 2:40 left in the third quarter James, 32, surpassed Jordan's 5,987 playoff points. And while James now leads in the playoff point totals, he still lags Jordan's regular-season point total.

LeBron James finished with 35 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists in the Cavaliers' rout of the Celtics in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals on Thursday (Friday, Manila time).

The Celtics, in year four of their renewal, had reached the conference finals before using the upcoming No. 1 pick, before spending their cap space this summer, and before cashing in another potential high pick that may yet arrive next year via their 2013 swindling of the Nets. He finished with 35 points and had the record to himself at 5,995.

"The biggest thing is I did it just being me, I don't have to score the ball to make an impact on the basketball game", James said. "You can flip a coin with the talent, but I just can't see the Warriors letting it slip away again".

The defending NBA champions won 135-102 in Game 5 to advance to the NBA Finals, where they will play the Golden State Warriors for the third consecutive year.

It's one-all at the moment between these two super teams, with the Warriors claiming the 2015 title, 4-2, before the Cavaliers fought back from 3-1 down to turn the tables on Golden State last season.

But it proved to be too much for him to deal with which led to the Celtics shutting him down for the playoffs at halftime of Game 2.

But superstars like James and Steph Curry can make their teams much more attractive for free agents.

The Celtics had home-court in the Eastern Conference finals. The odds reflected reality, with Golden State sweeping all three series. "But we like where we're headed". They were up by at least 30 points for most of the second half.

Kyrie Irving had 24 points and seven assists and the Cavaliers, who sat their starters for the entire fourth quarter. So it makes it even more hard.

Avery Bradley led the Celtics with 23 points, and Gerald Green scored 14.

With the Warriors resting at home since wrapping up their third playoff sweep on Monday, the Cavs had to be motivated by the possibility of six days off before their next game.

Game 3 is Sunday night. So, this team, I love this team and I don't think anybody in this organization would think this team is better without me. "Right now we are going to enjoy this and we will think about the Warriors tomorrow".

As the Cavs' stars did throughout the East finals, they worked together in fire-breathing tandem on Thursday.

The Cavaliers' 93-89 win in Game 7 last season was the only one in the series decided by single digits.

Will Kevin Durant's cuckold-ish scampering to San Francisco be rewarded with a championship ring? Thursday was about James inching closer to Jordan, not the Finals matchup looming out West.

"It was our two bigs that set the tone - Kev and Double-T (Tristan Thompson), they were phenomenal", James said. I wore a leg sleeve on my leg and folded it down so you saw the red part. "But they tested us every single minute, and we needed that".

Other than that, coach Tyronn Lue said he was not focused on the Warriors as yet. But they have faced question marks about their defence all season and are about to face one of the best offences ever assembled. You want to play well here because there is really no place like TD Garden in Boston.
