Wenger has continued undeterred and, ahead of talks about his future next week, oversaw a record seventh FA Cup triumph on Saturday, with Aaron Ramsey securing a memorable 2-1 win moments after Chelsea's Diego Costa had cancelled out Alexis Sanchez's controversial strike.
Diego Costa equalised for Chelsea late in the second half, after Chelsea had lost Victor Moses to a second yellow card for diving, but Wenger's men had the flawless response as Aaron Ramsey bagged the winner three minutes later. However, the moment of ecstasy lasted only for a minute as Ramsey scored the game-winner, crashing down the Blues from their momentary high.
They had started their FA Cup final against Premier League champions Chelsea as clear underdogs, after a disappointing season, finishing fifth and missing out on Champions League qualification for the first time in Wenger's almost 21 years in charge. "They started the game better than us".
"We have a board meeting on Tuesday, and on Wednesday or Thursday it will all be very clear", he said.
As well as handball, there was a suspicion that Ramsey, standing metres offside but deemed not to be interfering, had made a move towards the ball.
Newspaper reports claim both managers will sign new deals at their respective clubs whatever the outcome of Saturday's game. The Chilean's goal was initially ruled out as off-side by the linesman but was allowed to stand by the referee after a brief discussion between the two.
"The first goal was very unusual, but in the first half we didn't start well. They showed strength and unity and played spectacular football".
Overall, Sanchez has been involved in an impressive 45 goals in 51 appearances for Arsenal this season. In the second half we started very well and created chances to equalise.
"I don't mind criticism because we are in a public job", he told BBC Sport.
"I don't know if my players had time to recover [from the first goal]".
'But we would prefer to win the Premier League to the FA Cup, so it is still a good season'.
Wenger has now won the FA Cup a record seven times, but uncertainty hangs over the 67-year-old heading into the close-season.
On an afternoon when so much bucked the story of the season, double player of the year N'Golo Kante failed to track Ramsey, who was left unmarked to meet Olivier Giroud's dinked pass back.
We know that if Ramsey has his way, Wenger will be back in the technical area next season.
