Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea, FA Cup final

After a disappointing Premier League season, Arsenal took home the FA Cup on Saturday by beating Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley.

Saving their best for last, Alexis Sanchez put Arsenal ahead with a controversial early opener and even when Diego Costa equalised for Chelsea late in the second half, Wenger's men had the ideal response as Aaron Ramsey bagged the victor moments later.

With Arsenal clinging to the lead given to them by Alexis Sanchez's early opener, Mertesacker made a string of key second half blocks to deny Costa.

The wins means that Arsenal have now won the FA Cup 13 times in their history, more than any other club.

Victory was rich vindication for Wenger, whose Arsenal future is due to be decided in a board meeting on Tuesday, and allowed him to salvage something from the most hard season of his 21-year tenure. They showed strength, unity and we played spectacular football here again today.

Per Mertesacker hardly had the ideal preparation for the FA Cup final.

Giroud was played in behind with a nice pas, with the Frenchman then finding a flawless cross for Ramsey, whose late runs had caused Chelsea trouble all game.

"Of course I want him to stay at club".

Seconds later and Gary Cahill had to clear off the line as Mesut Ozil's near post clipped ball over Courtois was inches away from a goal.

'The first goal should never have been allowed - it was clearly a handball and then Ramsey was offside because he he was interfering in play. Welbeck headed a corner on to the post and Ramsey did exactly the same from a tight angle on the rebound.

Chelsea started the second half strongly but their momentum was halted when Moses was given a second yellow card for going to ground under minimal contact from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

This was a game of controversy that angered many fans.

David Luiz's extravagant diving header from an acute angle from a Willian free-kick was the best Chelsea could muster, while Costa perhaps should have scored with four minutes on the clock but his left footed volleyed was straight at Ospina.

Chelsea started the second period on the front foot, excellent possession in and around the Arsenal penalty area.

And while Costa almost equalised one more time - this time Ospina did make the save - Arsenal, and more importantly Wenger, would not be denied.
