What will be the legacy of LeBron James? | John Smallwood

James had one of his worst games as defending champions the Cavs were stunned 111-108 by the Celtics in the NBA Eastern Conference finals on Sunday. In three games against the Celtics, the Cavs have outscored Boston by 64 with James on the court and been outscored by 10 when he sits.

"I think when he goes home, he'll watch the game again", Smith said. James and the Cavs are now ticked off, many believe, and they'll come out with a devastating swing to open up Game 4. The last time James played an entire fourth quarter and didn't score was in February 2006 against the Washington Wizards. Let's regroup. Let's get back to playing desperate basketball, which (Boston) did (May 21). In Game 3, they didn't quite get that.

Security quickly removed the fan from the building.

"You let a team grab momentum like that, you nearly know that last shot is going in", James said.

"We called him on FaceTime, so he got to celebrate with us a little bit", Bradley said. "Some of the plays that we made, some of the plays that I made, I was like, 'What are we doing?' or 'What could I have done better?' But you figure out the next game and go forward". However, the big story of the night was the performance from LeBron James.

"Isaiah helps us out a lot and we know what he does for us", Crowder said, per Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe. "As of tonight, I'll get started". We've got to be better, but there's nothing wrong with being confident and feeling good.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, the Cavaliers were so much better than Boston through two games that half-serious water cooler discussions were had about whether or not the National Basketball Association should implement a mercy rule. Even when they got good shots, they couldn't finish them, which needs to happen for a team with championship aspirations.

"I don't want to act like we've figured anything out", Stevens said.

As the 32-year-old was walking from the locker room to the interview podium, he was heckled by a fan in a nearby lounge reserved for courtside ticket-holders, causing James to quickly turn around. "He's competitive, spirited, but played with good poise".

It was also eerily reminiscent of Game 5 of the 2010 conference semifinals against the Celtics at home. In Game 6, Bryant bounced back with 26 points on 30 percent shooting, 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal. "I feel like you have to have some type of adversity in order to be successful".

The Celtics aren't giving an inch despite missing guard Isaiah Thomas, who might need surgery for a hip injury. "You move on and hopefully be better the next game".

"No blame", Lue said. And the rest, as they say, is history.

"Multiple Cavs sources summed up James' night to ESPN as simply a product of his riding Kyrie Irving (who scored 17 of his 29 points in the first half) and Kevin Love (who scored 22 of his 28 in the first half) and then having difficulty turning it on late".

However, Thomas' replacement, Marcus Smart, scored a career-high 27 points and handed out seven assists, and Bradley had 20 points. They allowed offensive rebounds, played poor perimeter defense, and committed turnovers - all unusual things for this Cavaliers squad. He's been down with everything he's been going through, and then for him not to be here, I know that hurts him even more.

"I had a tough game, period", he said.
