A youthful Manchester United side finished off a rather disappointing Premier League campaign for the club with a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace, with debutante Josh Harrop and Paul Pogba both getting on the scoresheet.
United have already won the Community Shield and the EFL Cup in Mourinho's first season in charge, and a place in the Champions League is on the line when the teams line up at the Friends Arena. We had much better opportunities to score and we didn't score."We lost four players in one week, when we lost [Chris] Smalling and [Phil] Jones in the [England] national team and [Marcos] Rojo and Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] against Anderlecht" in the previous round of the Europa League.
Pogba, the world's most expensive player, was one of the few star players to be handed a start by United manager Jose Mourinho after missing the previous two games following the death of the player's father.
"United is the club with the bigger budget, with bigger signings, probably a bit more pressure but more experienced players that are all good players", Cruyff told Press Association Sport.
"It makes sense to say it", Mourinho said, when this point of view was put to him, "but I don't feel like that".
We are of course talking about Louis van Gaal, who, despite leaving Old Trafford having delivered the FA Cup last season, failed to convince the club's hierarchy that his brand of pass-it-sideways-and-see-what-happens football was moving them in the right direction (ie: forward).
"This game", United striker Marcus Rashford said, "is our season".
Meanwhile, Scott McTominay has praised the impact of former United midfielder Nicky Butt after making his first senior start against Palace. "I've always said that since I came here it has not been the greatest moment in the club's history", Mata said.
Let's finish this season on a high.
"This season I've thoroughly enjoyed it under him".
He also introduced 16-year-old Angel Gomes as a late substitute, who became the fourth-youngest player in United's history.
He added: "I have to go away in the summer and have a good rest and settle my mind and prepare for next season, and really just work hard".
