Emotional Pablo Zabaleta is happy to leave Manchester City in safe hands

Gabriel Jesus, Kevin de Bruyne and Yaya Toure provided the goals on Tuesday night, when City legend Pablo Zabaleta waved goodbye to his adoring home fans for the last time.

The Citizens' final home game of this campaign saw them toy with West Bromwich Albion for the vast majority of proceedings, as they recorded a 3-1 win at the Etihad.

It is unknown where Zabaleta will ply his trade next season, but reports have linked him with a move to West Ham United.

The Catalan said on Monday that City had not been clinical or solid enough, particularly against physical, long-ball teams such as West Brom and Crystal Palace, but suggested he felt "the quality of our players is quite enough to have been better" than they were. "Being here from day one is something that has made me feel very proud".

Supported by his wife, Christel, and son, Asier, Zabaleta was given an emotional farewell by team-mates and City supporters after the game, with all keen to show their appreciation for his nine eventful years as a City player. If not, they do not give you a second chance.

"I am not getting any younger but I can play for two more years and have got offers from different countries".

Having invested so much effort in recruiting Guardiola - they first approached him in 2012 before finally landing their man past year - City are unlikely to wield the axe soon.

Pep Guardiola has called on fans to help City qualify fir the Champions League and give Pablo Zabaleta a winning send-off in his final season at the club. In my situation at a big club - I'm sacked, I'm out. I have been part of the most successful period in Manchester City's history.

Guardiola said that he still has a chance with City to perform better the next season.

He told ESPN Brasil: "The team has played the way I wanted".

And the 46-year old discussed the disappointment of not being able to provide the goods in his first season in English football in his recent pre-match press conference.

Pep Guardiola has made an interesting statement when assessing his first season at Manchester City in the summer.

"I can not decide here because there are still a few more days to enjoy here as a Manchester City player".
