The Tiguan is available in two trim-levels - Comfortline and Highline while the auto is available in five colour options - Tungsten Silver, Deep Black, Oryx White, Atlantic Blue and Indium Grey. This is Volkswagen's second SUV in the Indian market and the Tiguan's first outing in one of the fastest growing automobile markets in the world.
Volkswagen is likely to price the Tiguan in the vicinity of Rs 25-28 lakh.
The Aurangabad plant also manufactures Skoda and Audi models, except the Rapid.
Inside the cabin, the Tiguan features three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with buttons for audio, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink compatibility and electrically-adjustable heated front seats. The Tiguan is set to become the first VW model in India to feature this platform.
Manufacturers built it based on Volkswagen's MQB platform (Modularer Querbaukasten). The Highline trim also gets a rear parking camera and self sealing tyres.
According to commentators, the Tiguan would take on the likes of the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the recently launched Isuzu MU-X SUV. The Tiguan is also loaded with VW's 4MOTION all wheel drive system with variable torque transfer to the rear wheels.
Tiguan is equipped with 6 airbags for occupant's protection and an ACTIVE HOOD for pedestrian safety. Other goodies include rain-sensing wipers, aspherical driver's ORVM, tyre pressure monitoring system, among others. Mated to the engine will be a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission while power will be sent to the road via Volkswagen's 4-Motion all-wheel-drive tech, which comes as standard.
Available at a starting price of Rs 27.68 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai), the Tiguan will be available in two trims - Comfortline and Highline - and in five colours - Tungsten Silver, Oryx White, Deep Black, Indium Grey and Atlantic Blue.
The Tiguan will only come with an option of a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, while its petrol version could be introduced at a later stage.
The vehicle features the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with variable torque transfer to the rear wheels, which makes it convenient to drive on every type of surface. The company claims a fuel economy figure of 17.06 km/l for the Tiguan diesel.
