Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is reportedly going to offer significant concessions in the Israeli peace process when he meets Trump in Palestine Tuesday.
Noting how Trump did not mention Palestinian statehood or a two-state solution in his public remarks with Abbas, Member of Knesset Ofir Akunis (Likud) said, "This is a huge achievement, on a historic scale, and a big win for anyone opposed to the mistaken and unsafe idea of a Palestinian terror state in the heart of Israel". Trump vowed that the United States would always stand by Israel, and got a standing ovation from the Israeli cabinet, while Netanyahu got up grinning from his seat in the middle of the speech to shake Trump's hand, as if they'd just executed a contract at a vehicle dealership.
Back in Jerusalem, Trump gave a speech at the Israel Museum, where he said "my administration will always stand with Israel". Israel was no longer allowed to be the elephant in the Islamic room, but something that for the first time in their midst was mentioned as a reality, a sovereign nation, and an entity with which America is proud to be in association.
Some speculated Donald Trump only reached for his wife's hand after he noticed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was holding hands with his wife as the two couples walked down the red carpet together.
The Palestinian Ma'an news agency said at least 20 activists "were shot and injured-one seriously-during clashes with Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank districts of Ramallah and Hebron".
Among other issues, the two leaders discussed the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations, according to the White House.
"Our Palestinian people's attainment of their freedom and independence is key to peace and stability in the world", Abbas said.
The U.S. army invaded Iraq in 2003 and toppled then Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, which completely destroyed the country's political system. Abbas delivered to Trump a letter from prisoner families that quoted Barghouthi, "the last day of the occupation will be the first day of peace".
Mr Abbas had sought to convince the unpredictable US President to remain committed to an independent Palestinian state.
A sign with "Resistance is not terrorism", written in both English and Arabic, and a picture of the United States president with a footprint on his face was also anchored to the truck. He met multiple times with Netanyahu, and said in a joint appearance with the prime minister Tuesday, "I can tell you that the Palestinians are ready to reach for peace - and, from my meeting with my friend Benjamin Netanyahu, I can tell you Israelis are ready to reach for peace as well".
The president said that after meeting Arab leaders on his trip to Saudi Arabia, he believes that "a new level of partnership is possible and will happen". During a speech at Yad Vashem's Hall of Remembrance, Trump described the Holocaust in such terms.
"In fact, when I made a decision to just do it, I said to myself, I said, 'You know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story; it's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won, '" Trump said.
