The suspected vehicle drove away just before the robbery and a half-hour later, officers pulled over a similar vehicle. Both teenagers have been charged with robbery.
"Now we have to do the hard part and hold on to it", Dixon said after winning the pole. IndyCar driver Tony Kanaan said Dixon had been making a fast food dash for a number of drivers, according to reports.
Franchitti, from Bathgate, West Lothian, who retired from racing in 2013, was robbed alongside his long-time teammate Scott Dixon in their auto at the restaurant. "I think we made big improvements in the handling of the auto".
The robbery happened shortly before 10 p.m. less than a mile from one of the world's most famous racing venues, where Dixon had just earned the top starting position in IndyCar's showcase race coming up on Sunday.
Local WIBC reporter Kurt Darling says Scott Dixon, his wife Emma and three times Indy victor Dario Franchitti were in a part of Indianapolis that "isn't exactly best known for being out and about".
He told reporters that Dixon didn't even have his wallet on him at the time and was forced to hand over his wife's wallet.
Dixon finished with a qualifying speed of 232.164 miles per hour, the best since Arie Luyendyk's track record of 236.986 in 1996 and the first lap on the 2.5-mile oval of the four for Dixon was 232.595 miles per hour, which is also the best since Luyendyk's 237.498 in 1996. About 30 minutes later, the report said, officers stopped the auto and the passenger fled.
Dixon was back on track the following day for the final full practice session before the Indianapolis 500, securing the third-fastest time. He was apprehended by a police dog. One of the suspects was taken to Marion County Holding at Eskenazi Hospital while the other went to the local juvenile detention center.
Kanaan led off the interview saying, "I was supposed to be with them". "Now obviously I can make fun of them big time".
While Dixon and Franchitti might not be ready to discuss the incident publicly yet, Dixon's boss, Chip Ganassi, already is making jokes about it.
Three-time Indy 500 champion Dario Franchitti was also robbed.
