"I wound never have done it if I had to miss a race for it", said Nico Rosberg, who won at Le Mans in 2015.
Fernando Alonso qualified fifth for the Indianapolis 500, his first Indy auto race. Given the way he's started the season on the mile-and-a-half circuits - winning at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway and a pair of eighth place runs at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway - I'd expect the number 78 Furniture Row Chevy to be amongst the cars to beat this weekend.
"If I get to Turn Two and I feel totally out of my depth, I will drive off into the sunset and not come back", the 37-year-old Briton told reporters yesterday, smiling as he said it. In 2016, that is exactly what we got.
"I think this weekend is a chance if you put everything together in qualifying around here it can give you a good chunk of lap time". "I'm very relaxed and very excited".
With the Indy 500 starting a few hours after the Monaco Grand Prix ends, Button says he will tune in to see how Alonso gets on and is interested in hearing his former teammate's reaction. With Fernando, it's clear why he did it, but it would be more hard for an Indycar driver to prove himself in formula one.
Yet the narrowness of its circuit does little to explain the Monaco Grand Prix's prestige. This weekend in Monaco, Bottas will use the new engine that was supposed to be in his auto for the Spanish Grand Prix before it sprung a water leak ahead of final practice. Despite our result there, we're encouraged by the progress we're making, and hope in Monaco we'll have the opportunity to execute a more representative performance than those we've managed in recent races.
"The vehicle seemed to be working well in Barcelona qualifying".
If you want to watch the Indy 500 In the United Kingdom, you have a couple of options.
Ricciardo too had an idea to make Monaco more interesting, suggesting there be a special "Monaco" compound of tyre that is even softer than the ultrasoft is right now, and that way drivers would have to make more than one stop and couldn't just use the same set all day. However, running in the pack without error for 500 miles is a different story to driving by himself in qualifying, and his lack of racing nous on ovals means he could be easy prey for those around him.
Monaco looms this weekend, with Ferrari red absent from the top step of the podium since Michael Schumacher's victory way back in 2001.
