James Cameron welcomes fans to Pandora

The Tree of Life at Disney's Animal Kingdom lights up Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in celebration of the new land, Pandora Ð The World of Avatar as it glows with bioluminescence at night. The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of ABC7.

The World of Avatar is meditative and awe-inspiring by day.

"Working with Jim and his team, notably Jon Landau, was a dream come true for all of us as we pushed the limits of creativity and innovation to bring the digital world of Pandora to the real world of Disney's Animal Kingdom".

Guests will soar around floating mountains, plunge through ancient caverns and skim across roaring oceans, before culminating in a realistic encounter with the Great Leanopteryx that boasts a 45-foot wing span.

While we will have more to say about the experience, here our some of our favorite images from our first nighttime expedition to Pandora.

The enormous blue Na'vi aliens from the "Avatar" movie appear sparingly, really just on Flight of Passage and a second attraction called Na'vi River Journey.

Avatar is the highest-grossing film of all time. "Rather than reliving the adventures of characters from the film, you're going to come to the planet where those things happened - and have your own set of adventures you can own".

Not only do you get a glimpse at the technology and symbiosis to come, but the Flight of Passage ride gives you a first-hand look at the other areas of Pandora we've yet to see on-screen. So we have to add a lot more.

One of Avatar's defining themes is its commitment to a brighter, more ecologically balanced, harmonious, and decidedly less destructive future.

It's an eco-friendly mantra that extends to its restaurant, with the Satu'li Canteen serving up some strong vegetarian options, as well as the healthiest (but still NOM-miest) food we'd experienced in the park so far.
