Guardiola was due to fly to Abu Dhabi today for his end of season review with Khaldoon al-Mubarak, the City chairman, and the club's hierarchy but it remains to be seen whether the manager will now cancel or delay his planned visit in order to stay with his family.
But not everything went terribly for Manchester City, and there's plenty of reason for optimism in the season to come.
"They always recognise what I did for the club, and it's something special". They just haven't quite found a way to take that next step yet, and that will have to be the focus of the coming summer.
He has been with City since 2010, helping them win two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups.
While the messages of support and solidarity rained in, two footballers with local ties to the city chose to go one step further, with Man City pair Pablo Zabaleta and Yaya Toure both donating sizeable sums of money to the relief effort.
A sixth-placed finish in the Premier League means United has to beat Ajax to qualify for the Europe's elite competition, or face the prospect of more Europa League football next season.
Their attack is still young, hungry, and improving, with lots of current quality and so much room to grow.
The Spanish newspaper reports Guardiola's family are "in shock" just like any other person attending the event which ended up with an tragic bombing attack that claimed the lives of 22 so far, according to British authorities.
And of course, having Guardiola in charge is reason for optimism in and of itself. If I have 10 or 20 minutes, I will always do my best. Most signs point to no, but it's clear that he would like another shot at proving himself to a coach he clearly admires.
There have been slight blips here and there this term, but overall the team has played well.
