Wolves Interested In Signing Derrick Rose

The Minnesota Timberwolves view Derrick Rose as a potential free-agent target this summer, league sources told ESPN. The New York Knicks and Wolves discussed a Rose for Ricky Rubio trade in February.

Chicago traded Rose to the Knicks past year, and he posted his best statistical season since 2011-12 with 18 points per game in 64 contests.

Most of the offseason talk surrounding the New York Knicks will center on Carmelo Anthony, and an expected waive of his no-trade clause to facilitate a move.

Rose is coming off a meniscus tear in his left knee that required season-ending surgery.

The moves makes sense on the surface, given Rose spent five seasons with Timberwolves head coach and president of basketball operations Tom Thibodeau while in Chicago. Seeing the Timberwolves express interest in Rose isn't too surprising.

"He enjoyed playing here even with the losses, which of course surprises us because he's been on some very successful teams", Jackson said. Which I like that attitude. "He's very direct about taking on a big challenge". However, he played well on the offensive end of the court for the Knicks.

Familiarity in leadership could also be a factor in Rose's decision (and Minnesota's choice on whether to pursue him). He claims that he has "enough money saved up" and that "the number one thing is winning".

"I want to win", he said, per Begley. But being at the negotiating table, you never know.
