Sydney FC vs. Liverpool: Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge Star in Friendly Win

A largely second-string Reds line-up unpicked the Sky Blues easily at ANZ Stadium, where almost 73,000 of their Australia-based faithful turned out to watch Daniel Sturridge, Alberto Moreno and Roberto Firmino get the job done before halftime.

"I wish tomorrow [to have signings completed] but unfortunately that's not really likely", he said after Liverpool's 3-0 friendly win over Sydney FC in Australia. It was the most intense football trip for an away game I ever had! "I've no idea how the players did it". My players obviously enjoyed the game.

"Let's do it together with all these quality players plus legends - a few of them can play because after the last game and the flight we will see how we can line up".

Both Carragher and Gerrard were included from the start and the former's involvement attracted some humorous reactions on social media. That pair were replaced by Steve McManaman and Daniel Agger, a sepia-tinged change that only added to the festival atmosphere.

Jurgen Klopp's side, who had only arrived in Australia some 11 hours prior to kick-off, began the match with two club legends - Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher - in the starting XI, which gave the match somewhat of a testimonial atmosphere.

David Carney's shot hit the bar right on the half time whistle - it was Sydney FC's best effort in a half that was totally dominated by the EPL side.

The Reds started fast, Sturridge scoring the eighth-minute opener when he bamboozled Alex Wilkinson in the box before firing the ball past Danny Vukovic and inside the far post.

Dejan Lovren and his Liverpool team-mates headed out to explore the delights of Sydney following their recent victory at a packed ANZ Stadium. It was hard to tell whether his anger was genuine or if he was playing up to the crowd.

Gerrard, who started the match along with Carragher, blazed over with an early chance on the half-volley from Firmino's left-wing cross.
