After an exhausting two days in Saudi Arabia, U.S. President Donald Trump travels to Israel on Monday, attempting to revive the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace process with visits to Jerusalem and the West Bank.
US President Donald Trump yesterday said that there is a "rare opportunity" to bring peace to the Middle East as he denounced Iran for supporting "terrorists" and vowed never to allow Tehran to acquire nuclear weapons.
"(Trump) said that he understands the significance of the Western Wall for the Jewish people and that's why he chose to visit here during his first trip to Israel. When the prime minister of Israel said over and over again no pre-conditions.
To demonstrate its fairness, the Trump administration invited Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to the White House weeks before Trump's trip to Israel.
On Monday, Trump stressed the strong bonds between the U.S. and Israel.
"So you have another story wrong", he told reporters.
"We as Mexicans have Trump as our neighbor and now he is following us here as well", he laughed, with Trump having pledged to build a wall between the United States and Mexico during his campaign.
Trump visited the wall as part of his first trip overseas as president, which includes stops at important sites for Christians, Muslims and Jews.
The president was joined on the visit by his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, an Orthodox Jew who went to the wall shortly after Trump and said prayers.
President Donald Trump has denied that Israel was the source of the classified intelligence he was accused of sharing with Russian Federation at a White House meeting earlier in May. "Real and just peace including the end of the occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian state next to Israel will come from the initiative of both nations, not from someone who wants to promote his own country at the expense of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict".
A police spokeswoman said visits to the site resumed as normal after the 10 were removed. "We stand in absolute solidarity with the people of the United Kingdom", Trump said, in his first comment on the Monday night attack at a concert Manchester, England.
Israel occupied east Jerusalem, where the Western Wall is located, and the West Bank in 1967 in moves never recognized by the worldwide community.
The ancient stones are in a part of Jerusalem that Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war.
Trump and Abbas met earlier this month at the White House.
The president was in Rome on Tuesday for a meeting with Pope Francis. It's also known as the Temple Mount in Judaism, site of the first biblical temple of King Solomon and the second temple (of which the Western Wall was part). The Palestinians see east Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.
At the same time, he urged Israel to hold back on settlement building in the West Bank, a longstanding concern of Palestinians and much of the world.
