Trump has since defended his disclosure, arguing he has the right to share such information with Russians.

He said the issue would be discussed during Mr Trump's trip. -Israeli intelligence cooperation is "terrific".

Trump's meeting with the prime minister is just one highlight of his busy schedule since arriving in Israel around noon local time on Monday on what is the second stop on his first foreign trip as president.

He made history today, becoming the first sitting USA president to visit the Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City.

From there Mr Trump was whisked by helicopter to Jerusalem to start a 28-hour visit heavy on symbolism and littered with political minefields.

The US has never recognised Israeli sovereignty over territory occupied in 1967, including east Jerusalem.

Trump placed a note in the ancient stones of Jerusalem's Western Wall.

Mauricio Guerra, a Mexican tourist, was shocked to find he and his family wouldn't be able to visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, believed to be the site of Jesus's crucifixion and burial, because of Mr Trump.

"Palestinians, Abbas said, want to focus on building their institutions along with a "culture of peace and denouncing violence" while building bridges instead of walls". We had an fantastic two days and their feeling toward Israel is really very positive.

In stressing threats from Iran, Trump on Monday echoed a theme laid out during weekend meetings in Saudi Arabia with Muslim leaders from around the world, many wary of the Islamic Republic's growing regional influence and financial muscle.

"We have before us a rare opportunity to bring security and stability and peace to this region and to its people", Trump said in a ceremony after he landed at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport.

While neither country is in a position to dictate to Trump where to fly, his arrival nonetheless reflects the warming relationship between them.

"Our responsibility before God and our people and the whole world is to stand united to fight the forces of evil and extremism wherever they are ..." Still, White House officials had downplayed the prospects for a breakthrough on this trip, saying it was important to manage their ambitions as they wade into terrain that has tripped up more experienced diplomats.

Mr Abbas said the conflict with Israel is not of a religious nature, adding: "Our main problem is with the occupation and settlements".

Trump has appointed his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as a senior adviser on brokering an Israel-Palestinian deal, while Jason Greenblatt, formerly a lawyer in his real estate group, has taken the day-to-day role of liaising with leaders and officials in the region on the nitty-gritty of a solution. "But I have a feeling that we're going to get there eventually".

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud appeared especially eager to "see peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians", Trump said.

Trump said that he will exert all possible efforts to achieve a peace deal between Palestinians and Israelis, stressing that "he is looking forward to working with President Abbas to support Palestinian economy".
