Philipsburg native Matt Adams homers in second game with Atlanta Braves

Mike Foltynewicz (3-4) allowed two runs, one earned, in five-plus innings to win his third straight start. He drove in one run and scored one run as Atlanta won for the sixth time in its last eight games. Phillips then contributed a 10-pitch effort of his own before knocking what would have been ball four to the right side, advancing Inciarte to third with a groundout.

The Braves answered with two runs in the bottom of the third. Inciarte, whose hitting line had been backsliding a bit since his April power surge, raised his wRC+ nine points with his offensive performance, from 82 to 91. Instead of promoting him, the Braves acquired Matt Adams from the Cardinals on Saturday.

Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said, "On base five times". Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said 3B Adonis Garcia removed the boot from his left leg and hit in the cage. Mercer scored on a throwing error by Atlanta shortstop Dansby Swanson.

Foltynewicz has won two consecutive starts, including a turn against Toronto on Wednesday in which he allowed three runs and six hits over six innings. Jason Motte came on in relief and struck out the first two batters he faced before getting pinch-hitter Jose Osuna to ground out to end the inning.

The Braves pounded out 13 hits, thanks to five from Inciarte, and two each from Phillips, Adams, and Tyler Flowers. Coming into this series, Josh Harrison brought 43 hits, 18 runs and 14 RBI, while Andrew McCutchen had 34 hits, 19 runs and 20 RBI.

Atlanta tacked on three runs in the fifth and went ahead 5-1.

Cole had two strikeouts, two walks and 10 hits for five runs in 4 2-3 innings, his shortest outing of the season.

Bradbury says a name change may provide a temporary bump, but with the Atlanta Braves right next door in Cobb county, it's only going to get harder to draw in fans and better players. "I've just got to continue trying to be myself and not try to do too much".
