Israel and Arab Nations Can Find Common Cause Against Iran

Israel on Sunday authorized a few economic concessions to the Palestinians requested by President Donald Trump, hours before the US leader begins a visit in which he hopes to revive peace talks frozen since 2014.

The two-day visit to Israel forms part of Mr Trump's first foreign trip as USA president. This is President Trump's first trip out of the United States, and it is an honor for us that he chose to visit Yerushalayim, the capital of Israel, and of course the State of Israel, on this visit.

Asked if Trump would pressure Israel on settlements, Tillerson said, "You know, settlements are part of the overall peace discussion", and one of "a number of elements that have presented challenges to the peace process in the past".

"They're losers, and we'll have more of them, but they're losers, just remember that", he added.

"Iran will never have a nuclear weapon", Trump concluded emphatically.

Trump will have visited significant homes of three major religions by his trip's end, Islam, Judaism and Christianity, a point that his senior aides say is important in bolstering his argument that the Islamist militancy is a battle between "good and evil".

President Donald Trump told Theresa May that "Americans stand with the people of the United Kingdom" in a phone call in which he offered U.S. assistance for the investigation into the Manchester concert attack.

"We have before us a rare opportunity to bring security and stability and peace to this region and to its people", Mr Trump said upon his arrival in Tel Aviv. Obama visited there, but he visited as a senator, not a president.

Abbas' adviser Majdi Khaldi told the Voice of Palestine radio that in the short term, renewed negotiations must address the Palestinians' economic problems that are linked to continued conflict and Israeli restrictions on trade and movement.

Trump's visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories is part of his first trip overseas as president, and follows an initial leg in Saudi Arabia, where he urged Islamic leaders to confront extremism.

Meanwhile, Palestinians said Israel had not allowed a Greek Orthodox Scout marching band to accompany the delegation to Church of the Holy Sepulcher as planned because of the Palestinian flags on their uniform.

In 2016, the US exported $8.1 billion of goods and services to Israel while importing $17.6 billion from Israel for a trade deficit of almost $10 billion.

Yet even Israel, a vibrant electoral democracy, is not immune: its coalition politics mean that small parties can have outsized influence, and thus their narrow interests can trump those of the broader populace.

America is moving to Israel for the 27-hour long visit.

"The Temple Mount and the Western Wall will always remain under Israeli sovereignty".

This is why the US embassy in Israel has since it opened about 50 years ago been in Tel Aviv, not Jerusalem.

ESTRIN: I think they both just want it to go smoothly.
