"It's going to be my ninth time in 14 years", he said of making the conference final. You might want something deeper than just his point total to illustrate his level of dominance in this game and this series as a whole, but those 35 points were indicative of the way LeBron was able to destroy the will of the Raptors.
The Cavaliers are looking at four wins until their third straight Finals, and for LeBron it would be his seventh in a row which is absolutely mind blowing. And Toronto went up by 11 points - their highest lead of the series. "And whatever it takes to beat the best, that's what I've gotta do".
Having already crushed the Pacers 4-0, the Cavs became the first team in National Basketball Association history to start 8-0 in two straight playoffs, and win 19 consecutive first and second-round playoff games.
"I think we picked a team to go against that was a buzzsaw", Casey said. He and his staff will take the methodical approach as they always have.
The Wizards evened the best-of-seven series 2-2 after the Celtics won the first two games in Boston. The team's best young player is Norman Powell, a second-round pick who won't likely change the landscape in the Eastern Conference.
Asked to choose between the Celtics and Wizards, James claimed not to have a preferred opponent.
There were moral victories to be found for Toronto in this one, with the big runs and the fight they displayed to the bitter end, but they were simply knocked down by a better basketball team, losing the four games by an average of 15.3 points per contest.
Serge Ibaka scored 23 points, and DeMar DeRozan had 22 for Toronto. The injury put those plans in question, but Gay is ahead of schedule in his recovery and looks to be back on the court next month and ready for the start of next season. Maintaining that cohesion through a lengthy and complicated design process is one of the hardest things to pull off as a group of developers. We had to get grittier.
PG Cory Joseph started at point guard for the Raptors with Lowry out. There were no points scored for the first 2:19 of the game Sunday before Cleveland F LeBron James scored on a dunk off a fast break. The Raptors shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, but committed 11 turnovers leading to 17 Cleveland points. Cleveland's lead was just five points after three quarters, 85-80 and they took the lead with 6:38 to play. In addition to the three-pointers, Korver added a pair of jumpers inside the three-point arc.
"We needed that spark", James said. But we knew once we got healthy we can go on runs like this, and get our rotations set, and lock in defensively and do some things defensively that we knew we're capable of doing.
For the Raptors, summer vacation begins a couple weeks earlier this year but, to be clear, failing to make it back to the East Finals isn't a failure at all.
DeMar DeRozan isn't the type to call out management or go behind closed doors and insist this player or that player gets acquired or a certain style of play is incorporated.
Casey tried to preach the positives, but acknowledged that his team's performance hadn't been good enough.
And because of that, the Raptors season ended on Sunday. The Raptors responded, and a three in front of Cleveland's bench cut the deficit to five points with 25 seconds left, but a pair of Korver free throws sealed the Raptors' fate.
