Official sources in Delhi said the searches are spread across Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Gurugram.
The CBI FIR has named the then INX directors Indrani and Peter Mukerjea, now accused in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case of April 2012 and remain in custody since August and November 2015 respectively.
Soon after the raids began, Chidambaram said "Government by using CBI and other agencies is targeting my son and his friends, Govt wants to silence my voice".
A day after the Chennai home of P Chidambaram was raided in an inquiry to determine if foreign investment proposals were illicitly cleared by him while he was Finance Minister, the cabinet met today to decide whether to dissolve the Foreign Investment Proposal Board or FIPB. Should I stop writing?
CBI had registered a case against Karti on May 15th, i.e., on Monday for giving the FIPB clearance to INX media. However, the Congress party countered raids saying, 'these search operations are politically motivated and ruling Bharatiya Janatha Party is trying to suppress the leadership in Tamil Nadu in order to stretch their wings in state'. The raids were conducted by a five-member team of economic offences wing (EOW) of the CBI, in the backdrop of the files and seizures conducted in 2015 following the Sheena Bora murder case coming to the fore.
INX Media had launched NewsX in 2008 with jailed Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani Mukerjea as partners. The directors of this media are Indrani Mukerjea and Peter Mukerjea. "There is no allegation against me", he said in a statement. The case pertains to the alleged irregularities in issuance of clearance by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in 2007.
Enforcement Directorate is investigating various aspects of the FIPB approval given in the Aircel-Maxis deal case, including the role of former finance minister P Chidamabarm, under anti-money laundering laws. "Such people have to be prosecuted so that in future, such ministers don't do such things", Swamy told ANI here, adding that at least 16 of the FIPB clearances clearly indicate Chidambaram as having deliberately done an illegal act to benefit his son.
It said that the concerned officials of the FIPB by virtue of the influence exercised over them by Karti, not only ignored the serious illegality on the part of INX but also deliberately embarked on showing undue favours to the company.
INX Media had in 2007 sought investment from Mauritius, an official said.
