Drake, Beyonce early winners at 2017 Billboard Music Awards

Drake, The Chainsmokers, and Beyonce will all be vying for the biggest award of the night, Top Artist, going up against fellow nominees Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Adele, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Twenty One Pilots, and Shawn Mendes.

Celine Dion wowed the audience at the Billboard awards in Las Vegas today when she performed the ballad My Heart Will Go On from the hit film Titanic. Once known for her shocking performances of twerking and dangling naked from a wrecking ball, the singer performed the slow-burning love song "Malibu", without much of her signature in-your-face sexiness. Drake led the winners with 12 awards.

In addition to handing out awards, Billboard also features a number of artists who take the stage and deliver mind-blowing performances.

Rock fans were stunned to learn about the death of rocker Chris Cornell, who was found dead Thursday in his hotel room in Detroit.

"I want to say, hold tight Adele, because when a new thing drops you'll be back to get the record back", the Canadian recording artist said in accepting one of his awards at the star-studded event held in Las Vegas. Drake had earned 10 awards in early winners announced Sunday morning and picked up an 11th for top male artist in the first minutes of the show.

The rapper and the electronic dance duo the Chainsmokers were top contenders with 22 nominations each.

At various points, she was joined by Lil Wayne, DJ David Guetta and Jason Derulo. Some of the OVO Sound leader's early wins included Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top R&B Song for "One Dance" and Top Rap Album for Views.
