Can Samsung Galaxy Book Compete With Microsoft Surface Pro 5?

A few weeks ago, we covered statements from Panos Panay, Microsoft's VP of Devices, that there was no such thing as a Surface Pro 5, and that the company wouldn't build such a device until it could deliver some more significant improvements than just updating the CPU or a few other modest tweaks to battery life.
There are also rumors that Microsoft could bet big on the Alcantara fabric that it praised so much during the Surface Laptop unveiling, so the Surface Pro could come with a similar cover as well, though the company could go for the same strategy as for the existing model and offer it as an optional premium accessory.
The new Surface Pro laptop will be unveiled on May 23. Microsoft is looking to be favoring this material for all their Surface keyboards in upcoming devices. Bottom line, it's nice but far from groundbreaking, and we'll probably say the same about the rehashed Surface Pro itself in less than 24 hours. Besides, this also kind of confirms that Microsoft is not working on a new-generation Surface. But the lack of port updates or leaked new features suggests that this will be a drop-in replacement, with Kaby Lake taking the place of Skylake.
The announcement of the Surface Pro 4 refresh is an imminent one even though it is going to be an incremental upgrade for the masses.
The next Surface that could see daylight this week in Shanghai might be called simply Surface Pro and represent a makeover of the current Surface Pro 4, mostly under the hood. Be sure to keep it tuned to OnMSFT, as we will be up early to cover this event, and will be bringing you all the best Microsoft news and information all day long.
