Unemployment rates hit record lows in 3 states

The state Department of Labor and Industry said Friday Pennsylvania's unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.9 percent last month.

The jobless rate in surrounding counties improved as well.

Louisiana's unemployment rate ticked back up to 5.8 percent in April from 5.7 percent in March, as more people entered the labor force than could find jobs.

Shelby County in metro Birmingham has the state's lowest unemployment rate at 3.3 percent.

The state Department of Job and Family Services says Ohio's nonagricultural wage and salary employment dropped by 5,700 in April. "These growth rates are around 2.5 to 3 percent".

Florida's unemployment rate remains slightly higher than the national rate.

Leading up to spring, the state was averaging more than 4,000 new jobs a month.

There were 215,600 Arkansans in the government sector in April, 1,900 fewer than in April a year ago, the biggest decline of any sector.

Florida added 10,900 jobs in April, which put it behind several other states in the nation.

The state number represents 119,256 jobless people in the state, but almost 2.1 million are working.

IN had the nation's 14th lowest unemployment rate in March. The Land of Lincoln was tied with MI for the second-highest jobless rate in the Midwest.in the Midwest region, only OH has a higher unemployment rate of 5 percent.

"The Iowa economy provided little clue in terms of long-term trend in April, with slight change in most economic measures", said Beth Townsend, Iowa Workforce Development director.
