Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho takes Europa League swipe at Ajax

Photos of 16-year-old Angel Gomes training with the senior team have also emerged, sparking rumours that he too could mark his maiden involvement in the first team squad.

The Manchester United manager is keeping his stars fresh for the Europa League final against Ajax three days later and will only use "three or four" first-teamers when he would prefer more on duty to help the youngsters settle in. Pogba hasn't performed on the pitch for a long time, so he requires warming up before facing off with Crystal Palace.

People who have played for Mourinho, like Lampard used to say he galvanises people but the hangover of Chelsea's implosion hasn't left the Portuguese. The Ivory Coast defender will play no part against Ajax in Stockholm on Wednesday after he was sent off in the semifinal second leg against Celta Vigo.

Mourinho thinks Ajax have good "quality" and isn't surprised that they will join United in the final on Wednesday. I think that's it'.

Joel Pereira has said he is ready to make his full Manchester United debut and start living up to manager Jose Mourinho's expectations.

"Some of them lie and the reality is since January we've played 37 matches and in the Premier League [campaign] there are 38".

"I always disagree with it, I don't think a team should play in two European competitions in the same season".

But they have struggled in the Premier League and will finish sixth regardless of their result in Sunday's home match against Crystal Palace - meaning the Europa League represents their last chance to reach next season's Champions League.

"The only positive is for me to save my players and give him the opportunity for Wednesday".

"I think one in the middle of a good structure, a dynamic structure, an experienced structure, I think, yes". To play so many kids at the same time, honestly, I don't think it's good.

"Then our squad was reduced to a number of players that put us under big problems".

Having finished in fifth last season, United missed out on the Champions League, having to settle for the Europa League instead.
