Celtics' Thomas sits out 2nd half with right hip strain

Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas will miss the rest of the playoffs because of a hip injury. They're also looking for their first 11-0 start to the playoffs in franchise history - which would tie a record set by the Lakers in 1989 and 2001.

He's scored at least 30 points in eight consecutive playoff games, the first to do that since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1970 and the three-time champ seems as driven as ever, pushing himself and the Cavs to greater heights as they seek another title.

In a 117-104 Game 1 win Wednesday, the Cavaliers held Thomas to 17 points on seven-of-19 shooting, including a two-for-seven showing from three-point range. Cleveland has won 10 straight in these playoffs and a record-tying 13 in a row dating to Game 5 of last year's Finals.

"We can get better", James said. We understand that this is a good team. Due to their youth and the unexpected success of this season, expectations will be high next season for them to return to the Conference finals or at least be among the top three or four teams in the East.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens said after Boston's Game 7 win over the Washington Wizards on Monday that Thomas was "dealing with more stuff, physically", but didn't elaborate.

Thomas led the team in points, assists and minutes this season.

Lue complimented James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Kawhi Leonard - the three players named finalists for MVP - and compared James to his old teammate with the Los Angeles Lakers, Shaquille O'Neal. This league knows what I bring to the table.

James still has a chance for a fourth National Basketball Association title - and second in a row. "We were poor. You've got to be able to pick up the slack, certainly, when other guys aren't available".

"Oh, he might have seen it then", Lue said, eliciting laughter from the media. Bradley said. "We'll find out what kind of a team we are, seeing how we respond". "But to me, I mean, LeBron is MVP, just like Shaq, you can give it to him every year if you wanted to". When we came out, we just had a real high awareness on him, and you have to. "We've worked really hard and put ourselves in this position to be here". Love posted 21 points with 12 rebounds in just 27 minutes of action. It's unclear what other player the Celtics were interested in but my best guess is Providence guard Kris Dunn.

Celtics: Stevens started Gerald Green in place of Amir Johnson. Green made his first two shots - both 3-pointers - but finished with six points.
