Tornadoes in Wisconsin, Oklahoma leave two dead

In Wisconsin, the tornado damaged the Prairie Lakes Estates trailer park north of Chetek.

- Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald has identified the man killed in Tuesday night's tornado that hit Chetek, Wisconsin as 45-year-old Eric Gavin.

The storm struck a subdivision about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday just south of Elk City, Oklahoma, about 110 miles (177 kilometers) west of Oklahoma City. However, Fire Chaplain Danny Ringer said that one person died because of the twister. Another person was killed in Elk City, where a tornado destroyed at least 40 homes, according to the Associated Press.

In Iowa, the storms damaged homes and other buildings and knocked down trees, limbs and power poles, leaving thousands of people without power. "They are working house to house, home to home, looking for people".

Tornado watches were issued by the National Weather Service for a number of areas throughout the evening, including parts of Chippewa, Barron and Rusk counties.

"I would say that we are still trying to account for everyone at this time". Five homes were damaged, but there are no immediate reports of injuries. The Prairie Lake Estate Mobile Park in Cameron was one of the hardest hit areas.

"Our rapid assessment teams were out as the storms were rolling late last night, and today we set up our mobile command unit", Porter said.

Beckham County Emergency Management Director Lonnie Risenhoover (RYE'-zuhn-hoo-vur) said "a lot of tornado damage" has been reported to the subdivision and surrounding rural area.

About two hours after the twister struck, Stauner said authorities were keeping everyone away from the site because of a gas leak caused by pipes breaking off in the ground.

Knowing thousands of residents living in a mobile home can be in the path of a tornado makes communicating safety a challenge for meteorologists and emergency managers. Shards of glass were flying at them like bullets, Tyson told the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram.

At noon Wednesday, some residents were allowed back into the trailer park, officials with Wisconsin Emergency Operations Center said.

Forecasters explore the movement of a low pressure zone and expect the appearance of tornadoes in other regions of the United States.
