Canelo vs. GGG odds: Gennady Golovkin an early favorite in the superfight

The fight will take place on September 16 but the location has yet to be confirmed.

Maybe Chavez's tank was dry from boiling down too much in weight for this fight, maybe he was just taken to school against Canelo.

Alvarez, arguably the industry's biggest PPV draw, defeated fellow Mexican fighter Chavez Jr.in a lopsided unanimous decision Saturday night.

While neither is in the same class as Golovkin, GGG had his 23-fight knockout streak end against Jacobs.

Alvarez said: "I have never feared anyone before".

Alvarez dominated the fight from the start as his quicker hands allowed him to land hard clean shots to Chavez's head and body.

Alvarez disappointed boxing fans a year ago by surrendering his World Boxing Council middleweight belt to three-belt champion Golovkin rather than fight him.

But while last nights "Mexican War" was a dud, the same can not be said about the impending biggest fight of the year.

It may seem like Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder would be the biggest fight in boxing, considering he sold out Wembley Stadium. "The fight is done", Alvarez said through a translator.

It's one of those nights in boxing that no matter where you're from in the world though, if you're just a fight fan in general, you know it's a big fight night for many a reason. After 12 rounds the judges decision went in favor of Alvarez.

"I thought he was going to fight. I'm ready. I think, right now, everybody is excited for us to fight".

Chavez Jr. entered the fight with a reputation for being an underachiever, having not fought a boxer of real significance since 2012. Alvarez was sharp with left jabs, straight rights, left hooks and uppercuts.

Canelo was originally supposed to face the unbeaten Kazakstan native in September of past year, however, opted to face Liam Smith instead leading to a lot of criticism.

"He beat me with his distance and speed", Chavez said.

'The opponent is going to give me the tools to showcase myself and that's what is going to happen'. Gamboa failed to answer the bell for the eighth round of his lightweight bout against journeyman Robinson Castellanos on Friday in Las Vegas. GGG has never fought in Vegas, and in fact all but one of his US-based matchups have occurred in either California or NY.
