"It's been a long two years, it took a lot to stay focused, stay on track", MacDonald said following the fight.
It was a victory that sent notice to the rest of the Bellator roster that MacDonald is here to take over. The company put on a hell of a show, delivering four finishes on the main card, with Cheick Kongo's points victory being the exception, but I predicted that one anyway in preview/prediction piece.
After the Canadian decisively beat Paul Daley in the main event of Bellator 179 in London, he claimed that the welterweight division-or the entire Bellator roster-could not hold a candle to him. He also had a message for the victor of the Bellator 180 clash between Bellator champion Douglas Lima and Lorenz Larkin. I'm a young guy and I know what I can do.
The first round was utterly dominated by MacDonald, who looked in a different league to Daley. I've won fights like that, but I've always had regrets the way I've won those fights. "When I walk into those doors now I'm going to destroy you, and that's it". The former UFC title contender said he wanted to keep the ball rolling and that he was open to all challenges. MacDonald said he feels he's on a different level from both competitors. I think they will be fan friendly fights. And outside of that, the big fights, the legendary fighters, they're around here in Bellator. MacDonald fell to Lawler on two separate occasions: a fifth-round knockout at UFC 189 and a split-decision loss at UFC 167 in November 2013.
