Twitter explodes as Manchester United reach UEFA Europa League Final

I win some, I lose some.

Jose Mourinho is adamant he had no other option but to play a weakened side against Tottenham as he feels Manchester United lack the strength in depth to fight in two competitions.

"When people say that we gamble by going for the Europa League, well we didn't gamble", he told Sky Sports. You can only rest particular players and certain times if you know what your preferred outfit is going to be for the final, and Mourinho, with only 15 established first team players at his disposal, has clearly kept this in mind.

The Portuguese said: "I am not upset [at finishing outside top four], because we had to make that decision. I want to think about the final I have to play", he said before walking out of the interview room. There were no injuries and it's one less match to play because at this moment the Premier League matches for us are matches we don't want to play.

United are now only in sixth spot in the 20-team Premier League but have reached the final of the Europa League. For Manchester United it's more important to win titles than to finish top four. I can not go to Man City or to Arsenal and put five kids at the same time all together.

Mourinho also revealed that he is trying to give a day off to as many of his players as possible in order to get them in the best shape for the Europa League final against Ajax later this month. I can not lose 5-0 or 6-0.

"But if you look at the history of this club when they've been successful, they had three or four top strikers who have rotated. The two goals are two very bad goals to concede, there was no concentration and no focus, but the team is not used to playing together and playing in different positions".

"The majority of the players that needed to rest had the rest and we played in a positive way, especially in the second half when we brought to the team quality and a little bit more organisation".

"Really disappointed because Chelsea in the end they won the Premier League".
