N-Out has been dethroned as America's favorite burger chain

The results mean that the only burger in the poll's top three which remains elusive to Londoners is In-N-Out.

Five Guys beat out In-N-Out, the California chain that held the top spot for the last two years.

The menu is equally simple, offering burgers with various toppings, fries, hot dogs, and soda.

Americans love their burgers and their favorite burger joint is Five Guys, according to the latest Harris Poll.

Over the past few years, Five Guys has grown exponentially, which could help explain its familiarity with customers and rise in the rankings. The chain only serves burgers, fries, shakes and drinks.

"Restaurants continue to adapt to the millennial lifestyle, and advancements in ordering methods such as Starbucks' mobile app. are likely influencing millennials' higher brand equity scores", said Joan Sinopoli, vice president of brand solutions at The Harris Poll in a statement.

While many "better burger" chains, like Smashburger and Shake Shack, aim for trendy designs, Five Guys has no-fuss atmosphere, with an open kitchen and bold red-and-white decorations.

Five Guys began expanding beyond the Washington D.C. area in 2003 and came to Fresno's River Park in 2010. In the poll, the chain got an 81 percent familiarity rating among generation Z and millennials.

Five Guys, which is now headquartered in Lorton, Va., now has over 1,000 locations in the U.S.
