Manchester United's interest in Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak has reportedly intensified amid fears that David De Gea could pursue a move to Real Madrid this summer.
The Argentine has filled in well for De Gea in recent games, showing himself to be a very capable backup and contender for first choice if De Gea returns to Spain.
The Old Trafford club have done the groundwork and spoken to Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Oblak, who is keen on making the switch.
Big names such as Jan Oblak have been linked as possible targets for the Red Devils ahead of the summer, but it now looks like Romero has earned his chance to take the number one spot, according to The Sun.
However, the Portuguese confirmed that De Gea would continue next season at the club.
The Red Devils are desperate to keep De Gea at the Theatre of Dreams, but know they will have a fight on their hands as long-time admirers Real Madrid, who nearly signed the keeper in 2015, remain heavily interested in the player, who is also said to have a lifelong dream of playing for Los Blancos. United are guaranteed to finish sixth in the Premier League and their only option into the Champions League is to win the final of the Europa League.
