He feels put upon, gosh darn it, and he wants the graduating cadets at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to know about his hurt feelings.
Pressure on the White House intensified after Trump fired Comey, who had been leading a federal probe into the matter, and allegations that Trump had asked Comey to end the FBI investigation into ties between Trump's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, and Russian Federation. Trump complains he's the victim of unfair media coverage.
Trump was offering his advice at the academy's commencement in CT, telling the graduates that they will find that 'things are not always fair.' But, he added, 'you have to put your head down and fight, fight, fight'. "Things will work out just fine", Trump continued, in what sounded like a pep talk to himself as much as to the graduates.
Julian Epstein, who was the chief counsel for the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee during the impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton, said Trump essentially brought this on himself with his "clumsy and self-defeating" attempts to rid himself of Comey in the midst of an active FBI investigation into any ties between his campaign associates and Russian Federation. 'No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly'. You can't let them get you down. "You can't let them get you down".
President Trump's approval rating has hit a new low in Morning Consult/Politico polling. Trump pushed back defiantly against news reports that have dogged the White House for the past week. "At the end of the day, the President has his job to do - we have our job to do - but it's important to get all the facts straight", said Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK).
Trump also repeated his claim that he had won big cost reductions on the F-35 stealth fighter jet, whose engines are built by Pratt and Whitney.
The dismissal sent shock waves through Washington, with critics accusing Trump of trying to thwart the FBI investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the U.S. presidential election and his possible collusion with the Kremlin.
"Soon, some of you will be leading boardings of suspicious vessels, searching for the most deadly weapons and detaining criminals to keep our people safe", said Mr. Trump.
Trump said he did not get elected to serve the Washington media or special interests. He extolled Coast Guard duties ranging from interdiction of drug smuggling to patrols of the inner-coastal waterways. As is tradition at the academy, Trump forgave the cadets' minor violations, like getting a parking ticket, saying that "there are always a few slip-ups from time to time" and that they deserve "to have a clean slate in life".
"You have done incredible work and in the true Coast Guard fashion, you had fewer people and fewer resources, but you accomplished the objective and you did it with skill and with pride", Trump said. "In the fishing industry, we're dealing with a lot of over regulation and we believe there's a lot of things that could be done to make the industry thrive again".
