Boston acquired the Nets' 2014, 2016 and 2018 first-round picks, as well as the rights to swap in 2017.
Ewing was the No.1 overall pick in 1985, the first year the lottery system was used. "It's a good time to be a Celtics fan".
Once the game started, there was little to get excited about for Boston.
By landing the No. 2 pick in the National Basketball Association draft for a third season in a row, the Lakers not only will keep their pick in what is a talent-laden draft, but also ensures the Lakers will also keep what would have been an unprotected pick in 2019 - the last vestiges of the Dwight Howard trade in 2012. In spite of that record, they are still considered underdogs facing a Cavaliers team that swept through both the first and second rounds and is eyeballing a third straight trip to the NBA Finals.
Pierce signed with the Washington Wizards in free agency and Garnett was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the 2015 deadline for Thaddeus Young.
"It's busy", Grousbeck said. "This is what Brooklyn wanted to do, wanted to go all on it, chase a championship". Plus, using this year to evaluate what the team needs around their existing talent could provide real value and a successful season could also inspire more high-end talent to consider the Lakers. "Now it's our turn four years later to take some benefits from the trade".
After being routed in Boston by LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavs for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Celtics may have shown just how far away they are from competing. Boston also owns Brooklyn's first-rounder next season. "It felt like winning Game Seven last night". I think he fits best with Boston.
After the lottery ended, Pierce wrote on twitter: "And look what I leave behind for the Celts on my way out #1 pick".
Both Thomas and Fultz are University of Washington products and have crossed paths on campus there in recent years. But he has a long way to go before he can be anointed as the best lottery pick in Knicks history.
Tuesday's NBA Draft Lottery had some of the highest stakes the league has ever seen going in. Thomas was the last overall pick by the Sacramento Kings in the 2011 draft. Supposedly the lottery system was created to stop bad teams from "tanking" at the end of the season, losing on objective, to be rewarded with a top draft choice. "There really was no way to walk out of here disappointed given the possible outcomes we faced".
This is Ainge's second major rebuild with the Celtics, and as we've witnessed they don't happen overnight.
Embiid then doubled down: "Hopefully we take that pick".
SI.com has Jackson going fourth to the Phoenix Suns, behind Fultz, Ball and Dukes' Jayson Tatum.
The Dallas Mavericks are ninth and the New Orleans Pelicans are 10th.
