Tornado Hits Trailer Park Near Chetek In Western Wisconsin

At least one person died when a twister tore through a mobile home part Barron, Wisconsin, local authorities said. Cattle have been killed, but he says he has no immediate reports of human injuries.

Gov. Scott Walker plans to tour the storm devastation in northwestern Wisconsin where a tornado leveled a mobile home park, killing one person and injuring at least two dozen others. He estimates the park had around 50 homes.

Kyle Kriegl with the Red Cross Northwest Wisconsin chapter said the Red Cross set up a shelter at Mosaic Telecom in Cameron, Wis., where people made homeless by the storm could spend the night.

Elk City, Oklahoma bore the brunt of the damage, with dozens of homes visibly destroyed after a tornado ripped through the small city, an NBC affiliate station reported.

The National Weather Service said spotters reported a tornado 4 miles northwest of Chetek at 5:35 p.m., and another 5 miles west-southwest of Weyerhaeuser at 6:15 p.m.

The severe storm that hit the Chetek area started to develop about two hours earlier in the St. Paul area, according to meteorologist Mike Griesinger of the National Weather Service in Chanhassen.

A line of severe thunderstorms struck the central United States on Tuesday, leaving a trail of destruction from Texas to Wisconsin.

Hultquist says the storms have the potential to produce hail and tornadoes from late afternoon into the evening.

Chetek Mayor Jeff Martin tells KSTP-TV that several turkey barns in the area were also hit hard.

In Oklahoma, another tornado damaged much of a subdivision on the southern fringe of Elk City. "Then we will assess the damage we have several other areas in the county that has damage", Fitzgerald said.

Storm chances increase in the Dallas-Fort Worth area overnight, with damaging wind gusts possible along a squall line that will move into the western counties of North Texas after midnight.
