A small plane carrying successful NY event planner Jennifer Blumin, 40 and her four-year-old and three-year-old sons, was being piloted by boyfriend Nathan Ulrich, 52, when it vanished out of the blue on May 15.
According to The Sun, Miami Traffic Control lost contact with the aircraft that was carrying the CEO of NY event management firm Skylight Group, 40-year-old Jennifer Blumin, her two sons and their pilot, 52-year-old Nathan Ulrich, at 2:10pm local time on Monday.
Nathan Ulrich, 52, was flying the aircraft on its flight from Puerto Rico to the town of Titusville, Florida.
Coast Guard aircraft were searching along with Customs and Border Patrol and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force about 40 miles east of Eleuthera. Ryan Kelly, a Coast Guard spokesperson, told the Associated Press the day the family went missing.
"We're optimistic. And we'll remain optimistic throughout the search", Kelly said.
The occupants included Jennifer Blumin, a well-known New York City designer; her two sons; and Nathan Ulrich, Blumin's partner.
The exposure led to a profile about Blumin in swanky Gotham magazine titled "How Skylight Group's Jennifer Blumin is Changing New York Fashion Week". Her company released a statement confirming that she and her children were missing.
'Her family is working with investigators and we politely ask that you respect their privacy at this time, ' the company said.
Nathan Ulrich's former wife, actress Rae Dawn Chong, says she's certain the situation had nothing to do with Ulrich's flying skills, touting him as an "excellent pilot".
The Coast Guard is now searching for evidence of a crash.
NY businesswoman Jennifer Blumin headed to Puerto Rico over Mother's Day weekend for what she thought would be a relaxing vacation with her family.
Ulrich served as a Coast Guard Auxiliary pilot out of Air Station Cape Cod from 2005 to 2014.
Their plane was at about 24,000feet when air traffic control lost contact. Officials said it's unknown why the plane never made it to its destination.
The Coast Guard said it would continue its search for survivors and had already covered more than 8,200 sq. miles by Wednesday.
Blumin is the CEO of a prominent New York City event planning firm, Skylight Group.
