Boston Celtics win NBA draft lottery, Lakers second

In the latest mock draft (and most recent post-lottery mock) from CBS Sports, the Boston Celtics went outside the box with the No. 1 overall selection. It felt just like winning Game 7 [Monday] night. With the Cleveland Cavaliers still considered the top team in the NBA Eastern Conference, the Celtics need players that have produced, and will continue to do so.

"We certainly don't have expectations for a No. 1 pick to come in and turn our franchise around and make us a better team than where we are right now in the Final Four". I don't know what's happening here.

"That felt pretty good", Grousbeck said after the draft lottery results were revealed.

The Los Angeles Lakers were the other big winners, moving up one spot to second to hold onto their pick. They had a 55.8 percent chance of getting a top three pick.

"When (Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum) called out No. 4 and he said it wasn't us, I said 'Um, that's it, that's all I care about, '" said Johnson, the Hall of Famer in his first year as Lakers president.

"I think there's gonna be probably fifty kids that are going to be in this draft that are going to be really well known".

Earlier in the day, the first paragraph of his page included the line, "He is best known for destroying the Nets in the Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce trade". Boston acquired the Nets' 2014, 2016 and 2018 first-round picks, as well as the rights to swap in 2017.

The Phoenix Suns, who had the second-worst record in the National Basketball Association this season, dropped to fourth overall.

But on Tuesday night, the ping-pong balls finally cooperated, and now the Celtics can either add a top option - Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball are the premiere names in this year's draft - or explore the trade market.

Now after receiving the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, the Lakers rumors are who will they select in the draft?

And the Lakers will get a chance to take one of them after beating the odds to move up. Had that pick fallen out of the top three, the Sixers would have owned it thanks to the ill-fated Steve Nash trade. Had they fallen out of the top three, they would have lost their pick to the 76ers.

The Boston Celtics, in my opinion, will keep the #1 pick and select Fultz.

The Los Angeles Lakers avoided a catastrophe at the NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday night. Charlotte is No. 11, with Detroit, Denver and Miami rounding out the 14 lottery spots. NY received the eighth overall pick, which effectively starts the countdown clock to the Draft on June 22.
