Former MotoGP champion Hayden hit by car in Italy

American motorcycle racer Nicky Hayden has been hit by a vehicle while out training on his bicycle, Wednesday, May 17, 2017.

The reports say that Hayden was knocked off his bike aggressively and hit his head hard, cracking the windscreen of the vehicle that hit him.

He's reported to have been taken to a local hospital in Rimini after the crash with serious head and chest injuries, but that remains conjuncture until official word is released by his team or the hospital.

According to reports in the Italian media, the 35-year-old American suffered severe chest and head trauma when his bicycle was struck by a auto.

Hayden, competing for Red Bull Honda in the Superbike World Championship, was treated at the scene before being transported to a local hospital. Ambulances arrived and Hayden was taken directly to the hospital.

The FIM Superbike World Championship said in a statement that Hayden, in Italy for the series' race weekend at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, was hit while training on a bicycle along the Rimini coastline on Wednesday afternoon.
