Letestu scored his second power-play goal with 13:37 to play before Larsson put the Oilers up 3-1. Edmonton pointed out goal totals don't carry over in a playoff series, Talbot rebounded in Games 5 and 6, and the Oilers showed they were to be taken seriously.
Ryan Ellis opened the scoring midway through the first period before McLeod doubled Nashville's lead. They'll still need to win three of four games to advance to the Western Conference Final, with two games still to play at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Cam Talbot made 33 saves for the Oilers, and Leon Draisaitl added an empty-netter with 1:05 to play to go along with three assists to hand the Ducks their first loss in regulation since March 10, going 18 games between such defeats. Rinne blanked the Blues after Alexander Steen scored with about seven minutes left in the second period.
Like a year ago the Ducks may have to sit John Gibson if they are going to win, but after riding with him in their 1st round sweep of the Calgary Flames it's time for the Ducks to play better in front of him. Anaheim will be back in action Wednesday night for Game 4 in Edmonton. Defenseman Kris Russell had a pair of assists for the Oilers, who took Game 1 of the series 5-3 and Game 2 by a score of 2-1.
A Getzlaf pass from deep in the Ducks' end launched Rakell on a breakaway at the Oilers blue line and from there he skated in alone on goalie Cam Talbot, beating him with a snap shot high to his glove side.
Patrick Maroon and Anton Slepyshev scored goals 2:08 apart late in the first and early in the second and Connor McDavid brought down the house with the goal of the playoffs, dekeing Sami Vatanen into the middle of next week and putting the tying goal under the crossbar at 8:40. "And I didn't make a lot of other saves during the game that I needed to".
Vermette's look came after a goaltender interference penalty waived off a goal for the Oilers. "And away we went from there", Getzlaf said.
Still, I can't see Anaheim falling down 3-0 in this series so I have to take the road underdogs in this one.
When McDavid scored by turning Sami Vatanen every which way but loose, and hammering it past Gibson's glove to tie it, the roof nearly came off Rogers Place.
From there, things got worse.
The Oilers have simply outplayed the Ducks in both games of this series and have now won five of the last six meetings overall against them.
Edmonton coach Todd McLellan believes Draisaitl's role as a support player for McDavid should not reduce the attention Draisaitl deserves as one of the game's developing stars. The Oilers probably can't afford to allow 40 shots if they want to win again, but I think they find a way to improve their defensive effort. The Predators outshot St. Louis 34-23, and they now have won seven straight playoff games on home ice, including all three this postseason.
"It does not matter at all - we're up 2-0", McDavid said. "We've always bounced back well", said Mark Letestu of Game 4.
The Ducks kept up their pressure and finally beat Talbot on the power play with a typically wicked wrist shot by Silfverberg. Any momentum the Oilers might have gained in taking a 2-1 series lead appeared lost. Bieksa suffered a lower-body injury in Game 1 and may not return until later in the series. With all these injuries to defencemen, it will be even more vital for the Ducks to stay out of the box.
