Local volunteers participate in Habitat for Humanity's "Women Build Day"

They're volunteering with Habitat for Humanity to build wall panels for a new home on Orange Avenue NW.

Representatives from the Bowling Green-Warren County Habitat for Humanity say they are still reviewing applications for this particular home, but they hope to house around four new families this year. "Not a lot of people go and build on a construction site for mothers day".

Habitat for Humanity is recognizing Women Build Week with a variety of local projects.

One volunteer took off from work to help out her community.

"It's when women come together and a lot of women learn how to utilize construction skills and they volunteer in unity to help the families acquire these homes", Collins said.

In Franklin Township, volunteers will work to continue building on the foundation of the first of three homes Raritan Valley Habitat plans to build this year.

"Land is always an issue in Vancouver", he said, "nothing happens in housing unless you have a piece of land, and those are tough to come by".

The city also partners with Habitat for Humanity to fund qualifying home fix projects around the city, Murphy said.

The Women Build Week will wrap up on Saturday by having a community build with everyone encouraged to volunteer.

"We already have 30 families that are living in 30 completed units here in this development", said Michelle Girardot, CEO of Spokane Habitat for Humanity. She mused that maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing for everyone to help build their own house. Verdejo said U.S. Bank participated in a Habitat build in February for a house on S.W. Buchanan.

"Typically they put in way more than that", she said.
