Celtics take control early, down Wizards in Game 5

The Celtics found themselves down double digits after the first quarter in three of the previous four games, and they led by only four points after the opening quarter of Game 4, a game they wound up losing by 19 thanks to a awful start to the second half.

Boston, Massachusetts - Boston Celtics has mastered winning the game on their home court by beating the Washington Wizards last Thursday with a score of 123-101, grabbing a 3-2 lead in the second playoff National Basketball Association games. Al was terrific. We had no answers for those guys.

Boston trailed 4-0 early in the opening minutes, but went on a 16-0 run in the first quarter to build a double-digit lead and never looked back en route to the Game 5 win. After Washington took a 4-0 lead, Boston went on to score the next 16 points.

Avery Bradley was Isaiah Thomas in Game 5: Since Thomas' 53-point performance in Game 2, the Celtics guard hasn't broken 20 points in a game. "It just happened to be me tonight".

OK, you can jump off that bridge when you get to it. "If we're able to understand that, and he's able to believe in us, I feel like the sky's the limit". The Wizards came in having won back-to-back playoff games by at least 15 points for the first time since 1978 and also having scored at least 110 points in five straight playoff games for the first time since 1971. Washington has an edge when they're all fired up, so that has to be their goal in Game 6. He left Thomas to act as playmaker, a role the point guard fulfilled by dishing out nine assists and, on occasion, even using his 5-foot-9 frame to set screens.

"[Bradley] played like he is supposed to", Thomas said. I wanted to make those guys work on both ends of the floor, and I knew that I haven't been playing to my ability on the offensive end the past two games, and for this team, I wanted to bring my all. Look for him to bounce back and put up big numbers, forcing a deciding Game 7.

Bradley continued to pour in points and added 11 more in the second frame, giving him a sum of 25 for the night on 10-of-13 shooting.

The Wizards mounted a mini-run in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 13, but the Celtics quickly replenished their lead.

After Wednesday's victory, Avery Bradley said the team was lacking Hoford's veteran leadership during the previous two postseason runs. "That's really all you're looking for". Meanwhile, Horford had the best all-around game for the C's in Game 5, adding seven assists and grabbing six boards.

"I think we just got to stay in the moment", said Thomas. "The coaches kept saying that, 'Impose your will.' We were the more physical team tonight". "I think Kelly did a great job of handling it". The Wizards are going to be hard to kill as John Wall is a leader who will make sure they fight to the very end.

With Boston down 4-2, Horford pulled down a rebound that could have gone to Wizards center Marcin Gortat. The first quarter ended with the Celtics leading 33-21. Later they booed him loudly when he touched the ball.
