San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker is expected to undergo season-ending surgery after sustaining a left leg injury Wednesday night, league sources told The Vertical. Gregg Popovich is known for giving rookies a chance and Tony Parker's career start with the Spurs is a flawless example. He finished with 18 points before he was carried off the court with an injury in the fourth quarter of the second round of the National Basketball Association playoffs against the Houston Rockets with eight minutes left.
"We knew we were coming to a hostile environment, we knew they were going to give us everything they had, no matter who was in the lineup", James said.
He was carried off by team-mates Dewayne Dedmon and Dejounte Murray, and did not look up as the crowd chanted his name. So, that's a tough blow. We shall see. We don't know.
Popovich also had a lot of trust in Parker in end-of-game situations, and though it's hard to quantify, Parker's experience in extremely high-pressure moments likely added some comfort for San Antonio during clutch moments.
Patty Mills will likely play a much larger role with the injury to Parker.
The Rockets' preparation is dramatically altered by the fact that Parker won't be present to steer the Spurs' ship.
