A clutch 3-pointer from Danny Green and a block from Manu Ginobili sealed the 110-107 overtime victory for San Antonio. San Antonio not only won the game, but they also went up 3-2 in the playoff series. For the Spurs to win, Leonard would likely have to be the best player on the floor in the series (he did it against LeBron James in the 2014 Finals) and Aldridge would likely have to score well against Draymond Green, which he's had trouble with in the past, plus a few other things breaking their way.
Danny Green added, "Jon's been waiting for this opportunity to come in and make an impact".
Harden led the Rockets with a triple-double, 33 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
Harden had a chance to tie the game, but his 3-point try was blocked from behind by Ginobili.
Whether it was through his leadership or play, Mills made the most of his first career playoff start. The Houston Rockets trailed the San Antonio Spurs by three points in the closing seconds of overtime in Game 5. His defining moment though, came in the waning moments of regulation. "The diving on loose balls, coming up with whatever it may be, you're throwing your body on the line in those situations".
"Yeah, I'm going to be able to play", Leonard said. He then hit one-of-two free throws with seconds left to help the Spurs extend their lead to 3.
San Antonio could clinch the series with a victory in Houston on Thursday.
"I don't know", he said.
When he wasn't sitting on the ball, Harden arrogantly believed he could blow by San Antonio's rangy Jonathon Simmons at will, but the sophomore swingman poked the ball away from him twice in the second half and drew an offensive foul on another possession. Ginobili capped his splendid performance with a block on Harden's 3-point shot at the buzzer. "We got caught in the middle trying to find guys and not really locking them up tonight". He had four points on 1-for-6 shooting and four turnovers in the final five minutes of regulation and overtime.
Harden and guard Eric Gordon logged 43 minutes apiece, with guard Patrick Beverley (41 minutes) and forward Trevor Ariza (40) also playing at least 40 minutes.
"He's had issues, and you could tell just before he took a couple of shots he jumped off one foot", Popovich said Tuesday.
The Rockets pushed ahead in the first part of the third, leading by as much as nine points, 72-63, with seven minutes left. Pau Gasol was a minus-10 in 26 minutes. However, the Rockets will need a lot more from these four players to have any chance to win Game 6.
The Rockets held a three-point lead at halftime.
INJURY UPDATE: The Rockets lost backup center Nene for the remainder of the postseason because of a muscle tear in his left thigh.
Popovich declined to speculate on the seriousness of Leonard's injury. "It's going to be a tough battle over there in Houston". "It was frustrating because I wanted to play". "Missed shots and just didn't make enough plays to win".
