Lesson Learned: Youthful Oilers bounced from playoffs by experienced Ducks

I slept like garbage. I just wanted to get out there and help our D corps out. I know for a fact that I'm probably going to snap at someone today over nothing.
Anaheim won a Game 7, at home.
The Oilers got the quick start they were hoping for, with Drake Caggiula jamming a puck past John Gibson only three-and-a-half minutes into the game. Perry and Getzlaf represent cap hits of $8.6 million and $8.3 million, respectively, the eighth- and 12th-most-expensive numbers in the league. "It happens. It's about responding, and I think we all responded the right way". I knew going in that this Anaheim team was talented and deep, but it was heard to get rid of the gut-feeling that they were going to stumble again. Cogliano, who was a pain in the side of the Oilers all night long, scored his first goal of the 2017 postseason. "Game 7 is going to be high emotion, a lot of different things going on, it's important everyone stays focused on the task at hand".
"I don't think anyone thought we'd be here, one period away from the conference finals", said goalie Cam Talbot, who made 28 saves in Game 7 and had a 2.48 goals-against average and a.924 save percentage in the playoffs. They've gone on to lose Game 7 each time - at home.
Perhaps the best illustration of Edmonton's outlook can be found in the contrast between the two losing locker rooms on Wednesday.
Need More winners against the spread?
Then, just 3:31 into the first period, the unthinkable. In THIS SERIES Gibson's save percentage is actually worse. Getzlaf, a force throughout the series with five goals and five assists, is matter-of-fact when discussing his team history in a final game.
Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot has been strong this series. Yes, it lacked for post-season experience, and that was seen as something of a detriment.
It was a major momentum shift from Game 5 on Friday, when the Ducks pulled off a miracle in the dying minutes and erased a 3-0 deficit with three goals while Gibson was on the bench for an extra attacker, sending the game to double overtime and an eventual 4-3 Ducks win.
Andrew Cogliano scored the tying goal midway through the second period for the Ducks, who had blown a 3-2 series lead and lost a game seven on home ice in four consecutive seasons. Edmonton played very poorly over the majority of this series but the game changed once Draisaitl was moved to feature on his own line.
Many of them have never been to a Game 7 and aren't quite sure what to expect.
For a lot of Oiler fans this series should already be over if not for the incompetence of the NHLs referees. It's one last game. First they kill a penalty, then look alright on the powerplay, and all of the sudden the Ducks were flying.
"We're having a backyard party", Terry Greanya said from his backyard Oilers party in the north Edmonton neighbourhood of Killarney Wednesday night.
Washington will attempt to vanquish ghosts of Game 7s past and advance to the Eastern Conference Final for the first time since 1998 with a win tonight against the Penguins.
Nashville-St. Louis: My forecast was spot on, although I did predict a first-round loss to Chicago (remember them - the best team in the West?). It's our turn to serve, and holding serve means that we go on. The over/under total has been set at 5.5 goals.
