"I'm not trying to focus on Tad Cummins, that's going to be taken care of", Anthony Thomas said.
A federal judge in Sacramento, California, ordered Cummins, 50, held without bond pending extradition to Tennessee on a charge of transporting a minor across state lines to engage in unlawful sexual activity. The charge carries a minimum of prison term of 10 years and a maximum of life.
Cummins was deemed a flight risk and a danger, according to the USA attorney's office.
Cummins, 50, was arrested and Elizabeth Thomas, 15, was found last Thursday after Barry told authorities the two were staying in a remote cabin near Cecilville, California, near the OR border.
The girl's father reported her missing the same day of Cummins' departure.
An alert resident noticed the Cummins' Nissan Rogue near the commune in far Northern California and alerted law enforcement, who discovered the vehicle was registered to Cummins.
The papers indicate any contact between the mother and Elizabeth "will most likely suffer psychological harm to her already compromised mental state".
Tad Cummins, 50, allegedly altered his appearance, switched license plates twice, disabled the car's Global Positioning System and used various aliases for him and the teen, documents state.
According to federal prosecutors, the 50-year-old began plotting his escape with the juvenile victim from the moment he was suspected of an improper relationship in early 2017. "You want to ask so many things but then you know that's not what she needs", Bozeman told WKRN.
David Finkelhor, director of the Crimes Against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire, told the Associated Press that the alleged abuse may have made Elizabeth an easy target for an adult looking to take advantage of her.
Detectives spoke to the girl Cummins reportedly kissed on January 31, and she told them she had a "verbal exchange" with another teacher at the school before she went to Cummins' classroom, the complaint said.
School officials suspended Cummins on February 6 when he was observed on a surveillance system at the school as being alone with the girl in his classroom for a half hour two days after he'd been confronted by police, the complaint said. Federal court documents show Cummins admitted to switching vehicle license plates twice, disabled his vehicle's GPS system, used aliases, altered his appearance, paid only in cash and used back roads during his almost six weeks on the run.
Cummins is accused of disappearing with Thomas after the two were reportedly spotted kissing at school.
He said she is happy to be back and is in good spirits, enjoying some of her favorite food, but she is just now learning about the nationwide search for her.
He was wanted for the March abduction of Elizabeth Thomas, 15, a student of his at Culleoka Unit School outside Nashville. "She put her hand over my shoulder and patted my back and said, 'It's okay, '" he recalled.
"Cummins preyed upon the child for months on end, nudging and molding her until her will to resist was conflicted and ultimately broken", the petition alleged.
