PM Modi condoles the passing away of Justice Leila Seth

"Justice Leila Seth was a remarkable human being, an exceptional Indian, a sublime combination of intelligence, grace, and courage", he said.

Justice Leila Seth, the first woman judge of the Delhi high court and mother of noted author Vikram Seth, died of cardiac arrest at her Noida residence on Friday night. She was the first woman Judge on the Delhi High Court. "My brother Vikram, sister and our other family members are here", PTI quoted her son Shantum Seth as saying. She was a champion of human rights. It was after 20 years of legal practice that she finally became a judge at the Delhi high court. "The judgment fails to appreciate the stigma that is attached to persons and families because of this criminalization", she had observed.

"Deeply sad to hear of Justice Leila Seth's passing".

Born in 1930 in Lucknow, she was also selected for the IAS in 1959, but in pursuit of a legal career, joined the London Bar.

Gratitude for her work on rights, as a role model, for her kindness. "We called the PCR, the ambulance but it was too late", he said.

"Justice Leila Seth, first woman judge of Delhi HC, member of Verma Committee, passed away". She could well have been the first woman Judge of the Supreme Court as well. Her instant riposte to innuendos from her colleagues, whether at the bar or on the bench, must have made them more gender-sensitive than what they were before they came in contact with her. My last support system has gone. She is survived by her children and her husband, Prem Seth.
