If the Senate fails to pass its own version, President Trump and Republicans from all factions stand to be embarrassed.
Obamacare brought health insurance coverage to millions of Americans. "And for once, the people with more votes won".
Millions of consumers face additional, sharp increases in what they must pay to get coverage, as well as for deductibles and out-of-pocket costs, as the ACA tax credits are replaced with less-generous ones and "cost-sharing subsidies" are repealed without any substitute.
So now you're probably asking yourself, what does this mean for me? This Kaiser Family Foundation interactive map shows how the change would play out across the country.
Still, California now has to brace for the fallout if and when Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act, is no more.
Analyzing an earlier version of the bill, the Congressional Budget Office found that it would lead to 24 million more people becoming uninsured by 2026, compared with the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).
The Center for American Progress estimated how much annual health-insurance premiums would rise for a 40-year-old with certain pre-existing conditions.
Over time, the GOP bill would limit the federal contribution to Medicaid, while shifting control of the program to states.
Primarily, it expanded Medicaid to cover adults who earn up to $16,400 a year.
Arcuri voted for the Democrats' initial proposal in the House.
The bill cuts funding for Medicaid by more than $800 billion.
House Democrats have rejected the latest change to the Republican legislation, saying it did not go far enough toward protecting people with pre-existing conditions. However, if an individual policyholder drops coverage then waits longer than 63 days to obtain a new policy, the new insurance policy can charge a 30% higher premium than the prior policy for the first year. This is a repeal and replace of Obamacare. "This thing is going to go to the United States Senate".
Obamacare requires insurers to provide an array of health care benefits, including maternity, mental health, prescription drugs and substance abuse.
States will be able to get federal waivers allowing insurers to charge higher premiums to people with pre-existing illnesses who have let their coverage lapse.
"Trumpcare isn't a health care bill", she wrote on Twitter.
King says while it's true that the bill enables states to request a waiver that could potentially allow them to opt out of guaranteeing coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, he says it's not an issue in NY because Gov. Andrew Cuomo would never do such a thing. There's now a photographic record of a group of rich, largely white men smiling as they take away poor and old people's health insurance. For example, a low-income 60-year-old in West Virginia ends up paying almost $12,000 more per year for insurance, while her other out-of-pocket costs increase by an additional $1,400.
U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-N.J 12th District, said she was "sad and angry" after the vote.
