"From now on, it's going to be America first".
Trump was returning to friendly political turf in Pennsylvania and he seems caught between his role as an outsider candidate and that of a now-elected negotiator. In four hours, Donald Trump will be tweeting about how bad Nicki Minaj bombed at this dinner, and he'll be doing it completely sober.
The White House Correspondents' Dinner-or what our absent president called, "a large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media...consoling each other in a hotel ballroom"-occurred rather unnecessarily and awkwardly but still with plenty of humor on Saturday night". This data, mixed with new reports from Democratic pollsters which state that the "true" reason Hillary lost was Obama voters switching to Trump, should be worrisome to a fractured Democratic party. Presidents have historically attended the event, but Trump chose not to, citing extreme bias in the media.
Before the rally, Trump toured the Ames factory in Camp Hill.
Trump, in his speech, presented his record so far - including the signing of many executive orders - as "very exciting and very productive, " despite what he described as the "mess" left by Obama's administration.
Trump listed what he said were some of his key early accomplishments, including the successful confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court of Justice Neil Gorsuch and clearing away many regulations on the environment and business.
North Korea suggested on Monday it would continue its nuclear weapons tests, saying it will bolster its force "to the maximum" in a "consecutive and successive way at any moment" in the face of what it calls US aggression and hysteria.
Asked on Monday about his invitation from Trump, he was non-committal, telling reporters: "I'm tied up". "I mean, this man has actually shot people in extrajudicial killings himself".
Trump had a rally Saturday in Pennsylvania to commemorate his accomplishments during his first 100 days in office. Though the White House created a website touting its accomplishments of the first 100 days, Trump has tried to downplay the importance of the marker, perhaps out of recognition that many of his campaign promises have gone unfulfilled.
"If the media's job is to be honest and tell the truth then I think we would all agree the media deserves a very, very big fat failing grade", the president said to thunderous applause from an audience of his supporters. It apparently falls short of Reagan's in 1981, and tax experts are skeptical that the plan would pay for itself, as Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has claimed. Polls show that Americans feel slightly better about his job performance on that subject than his job performance overall.
After the rally, the White House said the president had signed two trade-related executive orders, one for top USA officials to review all US trade pacts for potential abuses and another setting up an office in the White House to advise him on trade-related issues. "It put the countries of this world on notice that the sellout of the American worker was over".
